The Voronezh Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps was opened on November 8 (21), 1845. It was a military educational institution of a closed type, which provided secondary education in the volume of a real gymnasium and initial military training. The corps received its name in honor of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich, the emperor's brother, who was the chief commander of all land cadet corps. In 1865-1882, the Voronezh Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps had the status of a military gymnasium with a predominance of general education disciplines. On November 11, 1905, the corps was renamed the Voronezh Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich Cadet Corps, and in 1918 it was disbanded. During the 19th century, the building developed and strengthened its position as one of the leading educational institutions in Russia. Many future famous military leaders, scientists, inventors, writers and historians studied here. A large role in the organization of the pedagogical process belonged to the directors of the educational institution.
