The article discusses the problem of formation of national identity in the younger generation. The concept of “folk culture” is analyzed as part of the history of the people, its heritage, which is passed down from generation to generation. Particular attention is paid to Russian folk choreography - a visual and brightly emotional manifestation of national culture, which reflects the spiritual wealth and traditions of the people. It is emphasized that Russian folk dance has ancient roots, its historical development, stages of improvement from the end of the 10th century to the present day are described. Mastering Russian folk dance is considered as a means of familiarization with the history and culture of the people, successful formation of the national identity of students of choreographic schools.
