The article deals with the problem of professional orientation of high school students in the context of its impact on their future employment, the results of a sociological study of the professional orientation of high school students in Kaluga are presented, during which the motives for choosing a particular profession by students, factors affecting the professional choice of young people, the role of general education institutions in choosing a profession. The article reveals the content of career guidance for young people and highlights ways to improve its effectiveness based on the materials of a survey of 11th grade schoolchildren conducted in 2021.
