The article presents the experience of working in a piano class with a third-year student of an additional education institution. The methods and techniques of developing the student's creative imagination when working on the disclosure of a musical image are described and presented in detail. It is necessary to educate the active position of the student - he himself must create ideas and images, as well as be able to freely apply them in his work. As one of the active methods of work, is the method of associative series and the activation of imagination with the help of pictorial images can be used.
