Based on the results of the author's research, the article identifies the main problems and features of the cognitive interest of younger students, and identifies methods and means of its development. The general significance of cognitive interest in the structure of the educational environment of elementary school is substantiated and the key directions of the teacher's activity in the use of group forms of work in literary reading lessons are formulated.
