COURSEWORK IN ENGINEERING GRAPHICS AS A TOOL IN THE FORMATION OF DESIGN THINKING

Abstract (English):
. One of the priorities for higher education and the country as a whole today is to strengthen engineering education. Geometric and graphic disciplines are of fundamental importance in the training of specialists, the professional training of an engineer begins with them. By completing educational tasks, students acquire basic knowledge and skills for further mastering of profile courses: they study the theory of images and methods of its application in the processes of building geometric models, get acquainted with the rules of design documentation, means of automation and computerization of design and construction processes. At the same time, the foundations are laid for solving one of the main tasks of technical education – the task of forming system engineering, design thinking, which is expressed in the ability to think comprehensively, logically and creatively, to take concrete actions and make decisions to achieve a specific result in the form of a technical product. The article deals with the content of tasks, as well as the organization of classroom and independent work of students in the study of disciplines "Descriptive Geometry", "Engineering Geometry", "Engineering Graphics", "Computer Graphics". The coursework with design elements performed in the third semester by bachelors of mechanical engineering training at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is presented. According to the assignment, students develop design documentation for the product according to the scheme, description of the principle of operation of the device and drawings of the main parts, making, if necessary, changes to the design to increase the manufacturability of parts and assembly and improve the technical and consumer properties of the product, and replacing one of the parts with a welded assembly. The article sets the goals and objectives of the coursework, describes the stages of implementation and the role of the teacher, as well as the textbook developed to ensure the independent work of students. An assessment of the first experience of using the technique is made. Conclusions and recommendations are presented
