FUNCTIONS OF INDIRECT UTTERANCES AND INTERPRETATION IN THE COURSE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDIES

Abstract (English):
The article looks upon communicative functions of utterances. In the author’s point of view, rules of speech are dependent on the aim of communication, situation of speech, communicants’ statuses, properties of speech channel and supposition. These aspects of communication are reflected in the context of English language studies. Using the theory of dictema and factors of speech regulation as the basis for research the author analyses indirect utterances in publicistic texts read at English language lessons. Interpretation activities of students help to discover implicit properties of the indirect utterances and notional components of texts. The aims of utterances and communicative intention are seen as the basis of post suppositional research in reading and listening of English language texts. The author singles out the following functions of indirect utterances: linking and compression of information, escalation of information, communicative emphasis, expressing emotions and assessments, confirmation, imperative function, starter in a conversation, informational and emphatic assertion function, duality of opinion function and providing background knowledge.

По словам М.Я. Блоха, «…истинная мудрость человека в его отношении к языку состоит в том, чтобы за словами, являющимися названиями предметов и явлений и заглавиями мыслей, какими бы прекрасными эти слова ни были (а любой родной язык человека не может не быть прекрасным), видеть сами предметы, явления и мысли о них, подлежащие познавательно-критической оценке» [1, с. 40].

Интерпретационная деятельность человеческого мозга оперирует языковыми средствами для познания концептуальной картины мира. «Языковые средства – это техника выражения сознания, сами же понятия – его содержание. В системе понятий, хоть и специфических в разных культурах, выявляется некая фундаментальная общность, объединяющая разноязычных людей в род человеческий» [1, с. 38]. Интерпретация как искусство истолкования, раскрытия смысла, содержания чего-либо имеет несколько практически важных аспектов для обучения иностранному языку. Во-первых, интерпретация – это процесс анализа языковых явлений, механизмов производства и восприятия речи.

С методологической точки зрения это основа разработки теорий в области языка и мышления, выдвижения парадигм развития языка, экспликация научного знания. Во-вторых, интерпретация как процесс актуализации процессов сознания является средством построения тезауруса носителей определенной языковой культуры, формирования социокультурной, лингвистической, прагматической, дискурсной компетенций, т.е. шаблоны вербального и невербального общения формируются с помощью интерпретации. В-третьих, интерпретацию часто трактуют как психологическую операцию. Моделирование интерпретации включает следующие понятия [4, с. 331–332]:

  • принцип деятельности;
  • категория отражения (модель переводимости «отражаемого» в субъективный образ) и проблема Коммуникативистика и образование смыслового восприятия (осмысление, психологическая трактовка значения);
  • уровень нейрофизиологии (механизм опознания как сличения перцептивного материала со следами памяти с последующей классификацией и категоризацией);
  • уровень интеллекта («мысль не выражается, а совершается в слове»);
  • уровень понятийного мышления (перевод значения в личностный смысл).
