Abstract (English):
The article reviews the textbook “Functional Literacy of the Primary Schoolchild”, which is aimed at primary school teachers and addressed to the actual problem of modern school education. The author focuses on the methodology described in the book and didactic support of the process of the formation of functional literacy - first of all its objective components: language, literary, mathematical, and natural-scientific. It is especially emphasized that the technology of forming general cultural literacy of the younger schoolchild described in the book has not yet been presented in the methodological literature. The availability of the presentation of theoretical material and the practical significance of examples of specific tasks for teachers teaching younger schoolchildren are noted.
