This article presents the results of a study on the prevalence and contributing factors of academic misconduct among students at the Omsk branch of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. The study involved students from various fields of study: business informatics, public and municipal administration, financial management, finance and credit, and accounting, analysis, and auditing. Using descriptive statistics and comparative analysis of survey data, the authors identified a correlation between the year of study and the level of cheating and analyzed students' perceptions of various measures to prevent academic misconduct. The results indicate a high prevalence of plagiarism and cheating, attributed to factors such as high academic workload, stress, and easy access to ready-made solutions. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed to improve academic integrity, including the development and implementation of educational programs, enhanced monitoring, and the introduction of strict sanctions for violations. A comprehensive approach combining educational initiatives and strict control is deemed necessary for effectively combating academic misconduct. The study highlights the urgent need for a multi-faceted strategy to address this growing problem within the university setting.
