In this article a comparative analysis of physical fitness of students of Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU) in the 90s of the last century with students of the present time is carried out. The aim of the study: to analyze and compare the normative indicators of physical fitness of students of Petrozavodsk State University at different times of study. The following tasks were set in the work: to analyze the scientific and methodical literature and to identify the main normative requirements for physical training of students of higher educational institutions, to conduct a comparative analysis of archival data of normative indicators of physical training of PetrSU students at different times, to compare the level of physical fitness of different generations of students. To solve the set tasks the following methods were used: review and analysis of basic requirements for physical training of students of universities, generalization of literature. The main research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, study of archival materials. Hypothesis of the study: comparative analysis of the obtained data with the standards will help physical education teachers to determine the quality of teaching their subject, to improve the effectiveness of the educational process.
