CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTROL OF A LARGE-TONNAGE TANKER DURING STEERING GEAR FAILURE IN STORM CONDITIONS
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
This article analyzes the characteristics of controlling a large-tonnage tanker during steering gear failure in storm conditions. It examines the primary causes and mechanisms of steering gear failure, the impact of storm-related factors on the vessel's maneuverability, and the consequences for navigation and the environment. The study presents and evaluates alternative methods for ship control using propeller thrust and inertial characteristics. An analysis of real and simulated scenarios is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and limitations of the proposed solutions. Practical recommendations for captains and crew are developed to minimize risks and enhance navigation safety in emergency conditions.

Keywords:
large-tonnage tanker, steering gear failure, storm conditions, ship control, propeller thrust, inertial characteristics, emergency situations, navigation safety
