The paper deals with problems of translation of proverbs from position of communication science, difficulties of translating phraseological units and cognition-discourse paradigm in paremiology. Based on the scholars’ researches in listed areas of linguistics, the author analyzes an actualized Russian proverb in the text of fiction and its possible equivalents and analogues in English linguistic culture using cognition-discourse model of proverb’s sense actualization in the text, proposed by O.B. Abakumova.
