This article discusses issues related to the purpose and functions of the educational standard. It is noted that the planned results of mastering the basic educational program formulated in the standards of the second generation are too general, vague and ambiguous. As a result of analyzing the content of the new school standard, a number of important conclusions were made to substantiate the new requirements for educational literature: FSES introduced the new meaning of the concept of “educational results “; The new FSES does not set up a ready-made version of the content of education for schools, but puts forward only a number of requirements for the content of educational programs; the standard is built according to the scheme “from the planned educational results to the content of training and types of educational activities that are necessary for its mastering”; the methodological basis of the new educational standard is a system-activity approach; determining the content of the textbook, the author must take into account the possibilities of the new information and educational environment in which the educational process on the subject will be carried out; the FSES opens up broad opportunities for new organizational forms of education.
