The necessity of development and approval of a professional standard of a specialist in the field of socio-cultural activities is substantiated. The reasons preventing the process of its creation are considered. The normative legal documents containing qualifying characteristics and requirements to posts and professions in the field of social and cultural activity are analyzed.The reasons of insufficient activity of the federal educational-methodical association on the enlarged group of directions and specialties 51.00.00. «Cultural Studies and Social-Cultural Projects”are revealed.The issue of the loss of the formal pedagogical status of graduates in the field of training 51.03.03. “Social and cultural activities” is being raised. The need to create a professional union of specialists in socio-cultural activities and their participation in the development of a new law on culture in the Russian Federation is proved.
