The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of phraseological units with a somatic component in Russian and English languages and implementation of lexicographical sources material. The basic concept about phraseological theories and their interrelation with culture and life of the chosen people is given.

Истина «человек — мера всех вещей» была известна уже в глубокой древности. Неотразимые пространства, трудовую и интеллектуальную деятельность, чувственное восприятие человек измеряет через себя самого, распространяя себя на окужающий мир (насколько хватает глаз, каша в голове, не покладая рук, сердце переполняется и т.д.). Такие номинативные единицы создают культурно-национальную картину мира, в которой отражаются быт и нравы, обычаи и традиции, отношение людей к друг другу и миру [4, c. 89].
