The article provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment of the category of "political responsibility", which has relevant theoretical and methodological meanings and sociocultural connotations that are relevant to the current stage of the country’s development. This is the main objective of the research presented in this article. The theoretical foundations of the study of the concept of political responsibility are related to the application and deployment of both general philosophical methods aimed at a comprehensive examination of phenomena using methods of abstraction, analysis and synthesis, principles of movement from the abstract to the concrete, and based on the current socio-political situation. The theoretical and practical significance of the article is to substantiate the author's vision of the problem of conceptualizing "political responsibility" at the present stage of Russia's development as a sovereign "civilization state". The author comes to the conclusion that responsibility is meaningfully closely related to the cultural and civilizational code of the people, their historical experience and choice. Responsibility, understood in the traditions of European liberalism, does not correspond to the deep orientation of the Russian people towards collectivism, community, and traditional, including religious values. Political responsibility, therefore, should be considered not only in the narrow senses of electoral, political and legal responsibility, but also as an important intangible component of the system of political governance and civic participation, limiting the arbitrariness of power and focusing on the current and promising ideal of a social structure based on the concept of the common good, a model of political governance "by values."
