The course of economic processes in all the industrialized countries is characterized by cyclicality. Economic cycles affect the majority of spheres in any given national economy and are characterized by a variety of distinctive features. The concept of “long cycles” for a period of 40–60 years was introduced by the Soviet scientist Nikolai Kondratieff, and further these cycles have become known as the “Kondratieff long waves”. The change of cycles is associated with deep qualitative changes in the economy. Kondratieff economic cycle comprises four phases: recovery, boom, recession and depression. It is assumed that this theory of wave-like cyclical development should be comprehended as applied to the economy of France.

Развитие экономики любой страны как совокупности ресурсов, необходимых для удовлетворения общества «растущего потребления», носит колебательный характер. Такие колебания экономической системы находят свое выражение в экономическом цикле. Переломным моментом экономического цикла можно назвать спад, который при появлении некоторых обстоятельств может перейти в затяжной кризис. Исследования экономических циклов Н.Д. Кондратьева базировались на эмпирическом анализе большого количества экономических показателей разных стран на достаточно долгих промежутках времени — от 100 до 150 лет. К таким показателям можно отнести: номинальную заработную плату, индексы цен, показатели добычи угля, государственные долговые бумаги, внешнеторговый оборот, добыча золота, производство свинца и др. [1–4].
Цель настоящего исследования состоит в определении мощности циклов Кондратьева во Франции. Исследование проводится в рамках периода с 1820 по 2008 г., в Гери-Хемис долларах 2005 г. (2005 International Geary-Khamis dollars) [4].
