The article is devoted to the study of the influence of the religious factor on the system of international relations based on the analysis of its evolution. It is shown that the influence of the religious factor on socio-political life has been characteristic throughout the centuries-old history of mankind. It is noted that in the pre-Westphalian international systems, such complexes of social interactions as «state and religion», «state and culture», «state and civilization» are significantly developing, which increasingly influence international relations. It is emphasized that the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia significantly changes the attitude of the state towards religion. The reasons for the increasing role of the religious factor in the system of international relations in the 21st century are considered
