In aviation, a variometer is a flight control instrument that shows the rate of change in flight altitude. The operation of a variometer is based on measuring the difference in atmospheric pressure in a manometric box located inside a certain closed volume (sealed body of the device), and the pressure in this volume connected to the atmosphere by a capillary.
