In this work, the cognitive meanings of German phraseological units with the «Brot» component were examined. The relevance of the study is determined by the study of phraseological units from the point of view of cultural meanings and meanings attributed to a particular phraseological unit. Within the framework of the article, 27 phraseological units were studied, which were divided into three groups - phraseological units with positive semantics, conditionally neutral and phraseological units with a negative assessment. The study revealed the homogeneity of cognitive meanings among German phraseological units with the «Brot» component with positive semantics and, on the contrary, variability of cognitive meanings among conditionally neutral phraseological units and phraseological units with negative semantics. The article provides examples and analyzes the identified cognitive meanings of these phraseological units.
