This article examines the historical aspects of the formation of Canada as a dominion of Great Britain and its transformation into a virtually independent state. Special attention is paid to the development of the mining and automotive industry in Canada after World War II with the direct participation of American capital, as well as the formation of the North American free trade zone. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that it provides up-to-date data on Canada's gross domestic product and foreign trade indicators. When writing the article, the historical and statisticalmathematical method of scientific research was actively used.
