Cities with millions of inhabitants have not only a rich cultural and historical heritage, but also a great potential in the fields of economy, education, etc. To realize this potential, as well as to preserve the historical and cultural heritage, it is necessary to involve young people in the life of the city and form their self-identification with their city. The identification of a person with their city largely depends on the perception of the features of the audiovisual environment – it is the combination of visual objects and sound background that largely determines the image of the city in the eyes of its residents. Based on the data of applied sociological study carried out with the participation of the authors, the knowledge of young residents of megacities about the main cultural and historical objects in their cities is analyzed. The features and significance of the integration of cultural heritage objects into the audiovisual environment of megacities are considered.
