The article considers the organization of independent work as one of the foundations of the professional development of the future engineer's personality, considering it an important positive factor of his professional reliability. The ratio of the level of professional reliability of the student to the success of his independent work is revealed. The dynamics of the development of students’ independent work by means of a foreign language is presented.
