The evaluation of the recommendations of the European and national standards for the calculation of the piece volume of unedged boards is given. The basis of this method, recommended by standards, is the method for calculating the average width of unedged boards as the arithmetic average of the widths of the inner and outer sawn faces of boards, measured in the middle of its length. Based on the conducted analyzes, the dependence of the average width of the edging board on the shape of side forming logs, its diameter, rise ratio, place of the board in sawing pattern, as well as ways of ripping is defined.

Исследованиями профессора Н.П. Анучина [1] установлено, что основное количество пиловочных бревен по форме ствола приближается к усеченному параболоиду или к усеченному конусу. В процессе продольной распиловки бревен необрезные доски могут быть выпилены различными способами. Основной способ распиловки бревен в нашей стране - раскрой параллельно продольной оси бревна. Кроме этого бревно может быть распилено параллельно образующей бревна (т. е. по его сбегу).
Проведение объективной оценки рациональности схем и способов раскроя пиловочника требует уточнения существующего в европейских и отечественных стандартах метода расчета средней ширины необрезных пиломатериалов при поштучном способе их учета.
