Studying the language of the city is a topical direction in modern social linguistics. The article presents an image of a bus driver — one of participants of the communicative situation “transport” based on the writer’s own observation data and semantic differential interview. The results of the research are non-randomas the specificsof sociopsycholinguisticapproach imply that the researcher addresses speech practice through an intermediary — the recipient, settingthe task to see, hear and undergo speech production from latter’s point of view. Studies of the mode of speech activities of a modern city with the application of sociopsycholinguisticmethods, particularly analysis of speech situation “transport” and components, give a possibility to describe social, psychological “portraits” of passengers and bus drivers, and providethe researcher with a vast field for studying the specific features of metropolitan city speech behavior, who act as passengers and bus drivers.

Город - это доминирующая в настоящее время социально-пространственная форма существования общества [9, с. 18]. Вопросы лингвистического изучения города в нашей стране имеют богатую научную традицию. Основы ее были заложены в исследованиях 20-х гг. XX в., связанных с именами Б.А. Ларина, Л.В. Щербы, Л.П. Якубинского. Многие из задач, поставленных в трудах этих ученых, сохраняют актуальность и во многом ждут своего решения и в наши дни. Существуют многочисленные работы отечественных авторов, касающиеся этой проблематики. Отдельные положения урбанологии, коллоквиалистики, разработанные в трудах вышеперечисленных ученых, нашли достойное продолжение в исследованиях Л.Л. Аюповой, Л.А. Вербицкой, Т.И. Ерофеевой, Е.А.
