The article deals with the analysis of political preferences among the inhabitants of the Altai Republic that are based on ethnic and confessional factors. The results of the expert poll demonstrate weak ethnic and confessional identity among the regional inhabitants. The president of the Russian Federation and local authorities enjoy confidence of many people. Despite the polyethnicity of the region, its inhabitants take a favourable view of interethnic situation in the Republic. The obtained data may be used in the research of national policy in other regions.
