The last decades are characterized by a significant increase in competition on all global markets. Globality of markets led to global competition. For Russia a full-fledged entry into the global world economy stands, on the one hand, as a vital resource for the development, on the other hand, as the threat of displacement to the periphery of the world economy. From this perspective it seems relevant and actual to present an analysis of worldwide trends to ensure national competitiveness in general and the Russian economy in particular. The current stage of economic development highlights the issue of increasing the competitiveness of the Russian economy. The main weaknesses of the competitiveness of Russia are related to the administrative procedures and regulations.Bureaucracy, corruption, protectionism of government officials is responsible for huge direct and indirect costs of Russian companies and citizens. Corruption in Russian society, nowadays, is the main internal risk factor. Today, it has turned up from a trivial crime problem into a key threat to national security and competitiveness of Russia.
