The article is devoted to an expanded empirical substantiation of the postulate previously put forward by the author about the mechanisms of compensation for mental maladaptation in adolescents at the stage of their formation as individuals. It is shown that along with compensation for maladaptation problems through a psychotherapeutic effect in a teenager's family, such compensation is possible through the realization of social dominance by a teenager. Such dominance can have various root causes and also manifest itself in various forms, while having a significant impact on the behavioral strategy of an individual at all stages of his life. The mechanism of interrelation of the processes involved in the human psyche and the processes of realization of formed mental attitudes in social relations is revealed. The justification of the proposed postulate is based on the analysis of the youth and industrial biographies of several graduates of 1965 of two parallel classes of one of the secondary schools of the city Yaroslavl, as well as on the basis of their interpersonal relationships for more than 60 years. The first part is devoted to the postulation of a scientific hypothesis, the description of the canons and forms of identity in adolescents, the methodology of field sociological research with included observation, the characterization of a small social group chosen as the object of research, as well as a brief analysis of a well-known literary and artistic analogue of field sociological research.
