The urgent problems of non-destructive testing of the metal condition of crossbars operating as part of the railway contact suspension, portals of traction substations, building frames, bridges and crane trestles are considered. Verification of three most common control methods — visual and measuring, ultrasonic and magnetic — is carried out. The reliability of detecting the main types of defects and the limitations of each method are determined. A three-level verification system is proposed to ensure maximum diagnostic reliability.
