Abstract:
Modern culture functions in a system of transmedia platforms, where narrative models move from one medium to another. The work of R. Wagner, who created the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk and leitmotif drama, is one of the most influential models for such transitions. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to understand the mechanisms that ensure the stability and effectiveness of communication of archetypal plots in different media. The research material includes Wagner's tetralogy "The Ring of the Nibelung" and his treatise "The Artwork of the Future", as well as the "Star Wars" saga (episodes I–VI) in terms of John Williams' musical score and narrative structure. Aim. To identify the communicative potential of R. Wagner's archetypal plots and leitmotif techniques and analyze their reception as a tool for constructing a narrative in modern transmedia narration. Methodology and research methods. The study is based on an interdisciplinary methodology combining comparative historical and intermedial analysis, as well as the theories of narrative communication, transmedia and cultural memory. The methods include comparative historical analysis (to compare the Wagnerian model and its reception in "Star Wars"), intermedial analysis (to study the transfer of structural elements from opera to cinema), and elements of semiotic analysis (to identify the functions of leitmotifs as semantic codes). Results. It is proved that the Wagnerian model provides effective transmedia communication by relying on universal archetypes that resonate with the collective memory of the audience, and using the leitmotif system as a code that structures the narrative and creates an emotional connection with the viewer. It is established that the Star Wars universe typologically inherits this model, adapting it to the language of the audiovisual medium. The leitmotif system in both Wagner and Williams performs identifying, narrative-organizing and mnemonic functions, which confirms the transmedia stability of the proposed model. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a comprehensive analysis of Wagner's legacy is carried out through the prism of transmedia storytelling, which allows us to consider his opera reform not only as an aesthetic, but also as a communicative breakthrough that offered a working structural model for creating mythologized universes. Unlike previous studies, the emphasis is placed not on content parallels, but on identifying the communicative mechanisms of adapting the Wagnerian model to the language of modern audiovisual media. Practical significance. The results of the research can be used in the practice of creating modern transmedia products and media design, as well as in further research on transmediality, including the analysis of other forms of audiovisual narrative (series, video games).
