Modern machine-building production largely depends on 3D models created by design engineers in computer-aided design systems. This is due to the widespread use of computer numerically controlled systems (from metalworking machines to 3D printers) that base their work on digital counterparts of parts. The article raises the problem of creating 3D models of kinematic components. It is shown that modern CAD programs lack the ability to fully create a kinematic geometric modeling operation.
