The mind-body problem has been at the center of philosophical and scientific research for over half a century. The complexity and inexhaustibility of this problematic field itself determines the diversity of positions and concepts that have emerged during this time. Clearly, it is impossible to cover all existing theories of consciousness. A productive solution, therefore, seems to lie in constructing a «classification tree», which allows, firstly, to clarify the conceptual differences between the theories. Secondly, to provide preliminary generalizations of a number of fairly similar ideas expressed in various fields of knowledge. In this regard, this article presents an analysis of possible approaches to classifying theories of consciousness, with a brief overview of the theories themselves. It is also demonstrated that, despite the elegance of the proposed solutions to the mind-body problem, none of them leads us out of conceptual dead ends.
