The article considers the main identifying features of the global demographic trend — population ageing. The mortality and fertility rates, the correlation between young and elderly people, migration and wars are the key factors which influence demographic ageing process. The Great Patriotic War and the socioeconomic reforms of 90th years have had the most significant impact on the demographic situation in Russia. Today, Russian pension system cannot overcome the consequences of rapid population ageing. The pension system continues to improve for increasing the financial efficiency and reducing of the tax burden on the economically active population. For above mentioned reasons the next step of innovative pension reform relates with the increase of the women’s retirement age.

Демографическое старение является одной из наиболее активно развивающихся глобальных демографических тенденций, значительное усиление которой произошло в течение последних 20 лет. Данное явление представляет собой последствие процесса демографического перехода, при котором снижаются уровня смертности и рождаемости [3, с. 54].
В конечном счете это приводит к уменьшению численности детей и к росту доли пожилых людей в обществе. Старение общества является динамическим процессом, который определяется относительными размерами когорт молодого и пожилого населения в различные периоды.
Среди прочих факторов на демографическое старение оказывает влияние миграция населения, так как молодежь и люди среднего возраста чаще меняют место жительства, в то время как пожилые люди менее мобильны. Другими словами, в регионах притока мигрантов происходит «омоложение» населения, а в местах «оттока» происходит ускорение процесса старения и увеличение доли пожилых людей.
Существует мнение (в частности, Э. Россета), что одним из факторов, влияющих на исследуемый процесс, является война. Войны усиливают процесс демографического старения, так как основные потери в ходе боевых действий приходятся на молодежь. Помимо этого также сокращается численность детей в обществе, которые не родились вследствие войны [6, с. 473].
По данным Росстата, ожидаемая продолжительность жизни (ОПЖ) в Российской Федерации в 2014 г. составляла 70,9 года, в частности 65,3 года для мужчин и 76,5 лет для женщин. В дальнейшем, по прогнозам Росстата, указанный показатель будет возрастать и к 2050 г. достигнет 77,8 [8].
