This article examines the social maladjustment of migrants as a key factor in the development of deviant and criminal behavior. Based on established theoretical approaches, official data, and comparative studies, it analyzes the key mechanisms linking maladjustment to deviance: alienation, declining social control, cultural dislocation, legal instability, and socioeconomic disadvantage. It explains that criminal activity among migrants in Russia is not a function of their migration status per se, but rather the lack of successful social integration. Particular attention is paid to regional differences and factors that exacerbate or mitigate migrant deviance. The need for comprehensive preventive measures, including educational, legal, socio-psychological, and integration programs, is substantiated. It is concluded that improving the effectiveness of adaptation mechanisms can significantly reduce the risks of deviant behavior and strengthen public safety.
