The study objective is to explore the possibility of using mechanized electric spark treatment of the working surfaces of diesel locomotive bogies exposed to high contact pressure, abrasion, and abrasive wear. The task to which the paper is devoted is to improve the performance characteristics of diesel locomotive bogie parts by replacing surface heat treatment with surface hardening by mechanized electric spark treatment in a protective environment, ensuring characteristics not lower than those specified. Research method include theoretical analysis of literature sources on forming electric spark coatings on the working surfaces of machine parts, both in manual and mechanized mode, applied electrode materials, frequency-energy alloying modes, applied cooling and protective gaseous media and the hardening of properties provided in such conditions: coating thickness, microhardness, roughness. The novelty of the work is in the fact that combinations of modes of electric spark alloying, cooling and protective media are developed, ensuring the formation of wear-resistant coatings on the working surfaces of parts. The practical significance is in the development of a technology for mechanized electric spark treatment, which will allow obtaining the required performance characteristics on the surfaces of parts. Study results. As a result of the theoretical analysis, the prospects for the use of mechanized electric spark hardening of the working surfaces of parts to ensure the required performance characteristics are found and presented. Conclusions: one of the promising areas of modern mechanical engineering is the development of recovery technologies with hardening of machine and equipment parts in order to improve performance. Special attention is paid to the prospects of using mechanized electric spark treatment in gaseous protective media. The assumption is substantiated about the expediency of creating a complex technology of surface hardening by electric spark alloying, which makes it possible to provide the required performance characteristics on the surface machine parts.
