This study examines the development features of the modern Russian automotive market in the context of correlation with automotive lending, which is one of the most sought-after banking products for the population. The relevance of the topic under consideration is due to the tectonic processes taking place in the automotive market since 2022, the migration of automotive brands and the global expansion of Chinese automakers. Despite such market volatility, financial intermediaries continue to compete fiercely and stubbornly for each customer, as car buyer lending remains the most balanced loan product in terms of profitability and risk. The article examines the dynamics of sales and the reasons for the transformation of the automotive market in the Russian Federation over the past 10 years, identifies the main reasons for the growth and decline of the car market and the automotive industry in Russia in different periods. The main trends and prospects in the car market, typical for the beginning of 2025, are formulated. The main problems in the domestic automotive industry and automobile exports are systematized.
