The article is devoted to the analysis of the impact of alternative energy on improving the energy security of the railway industry. At the same time, modern renewable energy technologies, their integration into the infrastructure of the railway industry and railway transport, as well as the prospects for reducing their dependence on traditional energy sources are analyzed. In this context, special attention is paid to solar, wind and hydrogen energy, energy recovery systems, as well as hybrid solutions. It is concluded that alternative energy is becoming an important element of the energy security of Russian railway transport
