As of today, in the Russian Federation, many researchers note stagnation in the field of application of genetic manipulation technology, which is due to overly prohibitive legislation in this area, which does not allow producers of GM products to grow, cultivate, process and commercialize such products. This article proposes to consider as a potential alternative the legal experience of the People's Republic of China, which, according to some researchers, is similar to the legal experience of the Russian Federation, but does not impose such severe restrictions on producers of GM products, which contributes to the development of the Chinese economy. The purpose of this article is to consider the existing scientific opinions and legal positions concerning the issue of regulation of the legal status and protection of genetically modified organisms and to determine a possible option of legal regulation of the technology of genetic modification of organisms in the law of the Russian Federation. The object of the study is the legal status of genetically modified products and genetic modification technology, ways of their regulation. The subject of the study is scientific and legal positions of domestic and foreign specialists, foreign legislation in the field of regulation of these technologies.
