The artistic system of spiritual verse includes very diverse texts: from the "Pigeon Book" and "Yegoriy the Brave" to the "Verse of the Prisoner-slave" and "The Crying of Unborn Babies". Spiritual verse, on the one hand, was a product of book culture: the characters and plot motifs are of biblical origin. On the other hand, penetrating into the popular environment, book borrowings were subjected to folklorization. The mechanisms of interaction between bookishness and oral language in spiritual verse are different in comparison with classical folklore genres. If fairy tales, ritual songs, epics were originally formed in the bosom of folklore culture and then began to be involved in the author's work, then spiritual poems have developed as works that develop the book tradition, demonstrating the reverse process of the influence of bookishness on folklore. At the same time, it is impossible to ignore the impact of signs of folklore creativity: oral, improvisational, traditional, variability, dialect, situational dependence of the functioning of artistic texts. Spiritual verse is a syncretic phenomenon of oral and written culture, in which folklore and book components are in constant correlation.
