Investing in small and medium-sized businesses is the main element in the development of the country's economy. Investment management and a long-term concept for the development of small and medium-sized businesses should be interconnected. Investing in small and medium-sized enterprises is considered as a separate economic category, which in turn reflects financial, intellectual means of investment, as well as protection from the government. The article provides statistical data on the research topic of both Western countries and the Russian Federation, and also identifies the risks that occur when investing in small and medium-sized businesses. The authors analyzed programs that allow small and medium-sized enterprises to attract preferential borrowing on conditions much lower than market conditions. In conclusion, ways to improve the efficiency of the functioning of small and medium-sized businesses have been developed.
