The relevance of this study is determined by the need to develop the domestic higher education system, particularly given the Russian Federation's withdrawal from the Bologna Process. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential of using chaos theory in developing the domestic higher education system during the transition from the fifth to the sixth technological paradigm. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the search for rational proportions between classical and innovative education, taking into account the postulates of chaos theory, taking into account the relationship between the period of student study at a university and the duration of economic activity cycles that determine human life. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the substantiation of proposals according to which innovative changes being implemented in the domestic higher education system should not undermine classical education.
